Goodbye Sugar - Hello Health (without giving up on the tasty tea!)

There are so many things that we do that are bad for us, we know that and it’s nothing new in any way. I was just reading an old article on a dating blogsite that gave me the breaking news that - Marijuana connected to heart attacks! We all know that drinking alcohol, smoking cigarettes, eating take away food on a regular basis is bad for you, yet we all do it. If you’re reading this site, it’s probably because you want to make a change in your life. So where to start? Well perhaps the best thing to do is to start small. So my advice to you is simple.

Stop putting sugar in your tea.

Yes. Stop putting sugar in your tea.

It seems like a small thing on the surface, but if you work in an office environment you’ll be surprised at quite how much sugar you intake into your body on a day to day basis through sugar based drinks. That is it. One step at a time. Stop all sugar intake through drinks.

Why tea specifically? Our taste buds have become accustomed to tasting tea however we drink it. By that, if you usually take 3 sugars in your tea, 2 won’t taste sweet enough. Yet to someone next to you, 2 sugars is overwhelmingly sweet and one is just right. Why is this? Again – because we become accustomed to the amount of sugar in our tea. Once you’ve understood this, you can understand that to the person who normally takes one sugar, that tea with one sugar tastes as sweet to him as the three sugars do to you. Let me say that again, you don’t have to stop enjoying your tea! It’s about re-calibrating your taste buds.

After one month of having no sugar in your tea, your taste buds and your expectation of ‘sweetness’ will have re-calibrated and you be able to drink a cup of tea with no sugar and you will find you will really be able to taste the tea. For the first time in years rather than just tasting the sugar, you will really be able to taste that actual tea itself – and I tell you, it tastes good. This time frame can be accelerated if you stay clear of the vending machines and give up all sugary drinks at the same time.

Once you have done this you will find that not only does your tea taste wonderful, you will have significantly reduced the amount of sugar in your body which will have an overall effect on your personal health and vitality.

Best of all, on the odd occasion that you do decided to put a (one) sugar in your tea, it will taste as sweet to you as the three sugared tea you were drinking just one short month ago.

(If you do go down this route, once you have gone through the month of resetting your taste expectations, I advise you try out some of the more interesting teas. Earl grey, Lady grey etc. Without sugar these teas really come into their own)
