Probably my least favourite of the Spice Girls during their pop world reign Scary Spice has transformed from a brash girl to a sophisticated diva who’s got >  Following her progress through America’s “Dancing With The Stars” I’ve been amazed to see how she’s changed over the years since the old days of “Girl Power”.   Like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon she’s turned from scary to sexy and gawky to glam.   It will be interesting to see how this fits into the Spice Girl image as their tour is about to kick off.  It’ll be a shame if she reverts back to her old >  Dance on Mel - you did us Brits proud!

You've probably heard the old saying, "You are what you eat." Well it's true and if you want to look great, you have to eat great.  Eat junk food your appearance is going to look like junk, however if you eat nutritious things that are healthy for you, your skin (and body!) will reflect this. In order to get your skin looking its best there are a few things that should be a regular part of your diet.  First of all you must make sure you are eating fruit, legumes, vegetables, and whole grains.  Seafood is another great thing to eat that'll help your skin look beautiful especially seafood that is rich in omega oil.  Most fruits and vegetables contain a ton of vitamins and minerals that are good for promoting a healthy look.

Have you ever wondered why so many people look healthier during the summer? Yes it’s possible they've been out exercising but another major reason is because they are eating the right foods that are great for their skin. Summer is a time when fruit is plentiful and the day is too short to spend indoors cooking food or standing in queues at a fast food takeaway!  Take advantage of what sun there is by sitting outside with a dish of strawberries to snack on, or make slushies with fruit juice.  Enjoy the early morning summer sunlight eating a grapefruit in the garden. By eating more fruits you aren’t just putting nutritional goodness into your body, you’re also hydrating your skin with the water inside the fruit.

Many fruits and vegetables contain lycopene which apart from encouraging good health, helps to reduce aging a bit longer.  Beta-carotene, also known as vitamin A, which is orange in color and can be found in vegetables like carrots and squash, helps eye sight, the immune system as well as the skin.  To help with collagen you may want to eat a bit more vitamin c, which can be found in oranges, strawberries and a few other green vegetables – vitamin C is also great for building up your system against the common cold in the winter.

Don’t forget that while eating the proper things are great for healthy looking skin, so is drinking plenty of water and getting exercise – find a good balance between eating, drinking and moving in the right way and you’re sure to have a great looking skin as well as an awesome body!

Nicole Kidman’s in London for the UK premiere of her new movie “The Golden Compass” and boy is she looking good.  If women knew that age 40 was going to fit them as well as it does this sleek >With her >  Unlike many of her younger peers, she’s elegant and wears her fame with grace and poise.

I’ve no doubt that she’s got a team that help to keep her looking that great, and there’s always gossip about cosmetic surgery (although she’s denied this), Nicole Kidman is looking fabulous at 40.  As much as anyone else can help with the make-up, the wardrobe and even Botox and/or nipping and tucking should it be necessary, it’s still down to the individual’s commitment to move pounds and muscle in order to maintain a body that’s as slim as hers.  So go Nicole, you’re a great role model to those women approaching the big 4-0.

A skincare routine is often little more than a habit.  It’s something that doesn’t take up a great deal of time once you know what you’re doing and what you’re using to do it.  As with most things, it’s getting the habit started that creates the problem.  You put it off because you’re tired, or because you don’t have the money to buy that particular product this week, or because you don’t see the point, or because you don’t think it matters – but all of these are really disguises for the simple fact that you just don’t have the energy to think about implementing a routine.

If you have a daughter, the ideal time to start her skincare routine habit is before she starts puberty.  That way she’ll already be taking good care of her skin when the hormones start to wage a war on a face!  From an age when she’s old enough to understand what she’s doing, if for no other reason than her mum does it, she can put the basics of good skincare into practice.

Use very natural products that are gentle to young sensitive skin, and the 1-2-3 system of cleanse, tone and moisturize, you can let your young daughter feel that she is entering a more mature phase whilst at the same time setting the foundation of a lifetime of healthy skincare in place.  Choose a product line that falls within your budget, and fits her skin type, then let her choose any options that are available.  Will she prefer make-up remover pads to cleanse for example, or would she prefer to use her hands or a face cloth?

This beauty routine right-of-passage isn’t just a way of ensuring that she’s going to have few skincare problems than she may otherwise have experienced however.  It’s also a way for you to bond with your daughter at a time when she’s growing up and becoming more distant.  Use the common bond of womanhood to encourage her to talk to you about things in her life.  Your acceptance of the fact that she’s no longer a little girl will show her that you respect her right to grow up, and she’s going to be less likely to rebel against you once adolescence really gets its claws into!  Let her see that you’re a hip mum that wants her to develop into a young woman by showing her how to take care of her skin – and once she starts spreading on the make-up, the lessons she’s learned from you should mean that she at least cleans it off properly each night and gives her skin a chance to breathe!

If you were to listen to the commercials on TV, and believe all you read in women’s magazines about spa treatments being carried out in luxurious surroundings, and see advertisements for top brand skincare manufacturers’ newest lines, then you could be forgiven for believing that it does cost a fortune to have great skin.  But the reality is that this marketing is nothing more than hype that’s so convincing women in their millions worldwide believe that in order to have flawless skin, they must spend a lot of money buying the right products to care for their skin correctly.  The reality is – the real cost involved with great looking skin is in knowledge and effort, not money.

You could pay thousands of pounds, dollars, yen for the top products and treatments available throughout the world, but unless you know how to apply them, and how often, then you aren’t guaranteed good skin.  You could attend the top spa that all the celebs are talking about, but if your life>  You have to be willing to invest more into your skincare than cash!

First of all you need to adjust your life>  Great looking skin is hydrated, so you must commit to drinking the required healthy amount of water per day (approx 6-8 8oz glasses).  You also need to ensure that you don’t smoke, or work/live in a climate controlled environment that dries out your skin – if you do, and you can’t change the situation, then you need to use a thick moisturizer to prevent the moisture from evaporating through your pores.  Sunshine will also dehydrate your skin so ensure that whatever moisturizer and make-up you use has some SFP above 15 to stop this from encouraging the wrinkles that appear when your skin is dehydrated.

Next you must have a good positive skincare attitude so that you make it a daily priority – even if you have to get up 5 minutes earlier and go to bed 10 minutes before you normally would in order to ensure you do it right.  Never go to bed with your make-up on.  Ever!  Make sure you clean it completely off, and then cleanse tone and moisturize your skin with products that are suitable for your skin type (if you’re not sure, have it checked out at one of the counters in your local department store).  When you awake in the morning, you should gently cleanse and tone again, and then use a good moisturizer as a base for your make-up.

So rather than sigh and think how great your skin would look if you could just buy those fancy packaged products in the store, think about it – it’s the packaging that’s expensive, without the effort the product still won’t be effective!  Get real about your skincare and take responsibility for giving yourself a healthy glow – buy the products that best compliment your skin type and commit to using them daily.
