Well the airports are starting to relax the hand luggage restrictions, well whoop-de-do! It’s not the amount of hand luggage that needs addressed, it’s the weight restrictions that are imposed by these budget airlines. 10kg in hand luggage is nothing. If you’ve got a laptop computer you’re already a good way towards the limit and that’s without all the other stuff you need such as the small plastic bags of liquid based hygiene items and your travel documentation!
Weight restrictions on these planes defies logic. Why is it necessary to have people restricted to so little when the planes can take so much? If I travel with my two boys, they weigh about 40kg between them, and yet they are paying the same ticket price as two average adults of 100kg each. Thats not to mention the large american man sitting to my left that despite recently having smart lipo still weighs alot more than the average. My boys don’t however get a luggage allowance that is adjusted for the weight they don’t carry on their person, instead I have to pay excess luggage fees to cover the amount of clothing and “stuff” that children of this size need when they’re traveling.
What the airlines seem to be courting are the business executives, the ones who have no checked in luggage, and only a briefcase that contains their electronic gadgetry. They are processed quickly through check-in and usually manage to be amongst the first on the plane – partially because they can afford to pay whatever charges the airline requires for priority boarding fees.
Families are paying adult prices for small children, and yet they aren’t allowed to board the plane safely before the other passengers unless they can afford to pay these priority charges. If I take my children on one of these flights, and want to ensure that we sit together, I have to pay priority board fees for all three of us – I have to wonder what will happen if a parent decides to test the system and only pays for themselves, threatening to leave the children at the gate for the staff to deal with unless they allow the children through. What a bad attitude these once great family orientated airlines are assuming.
So yes it’s great – we can now carry additional hand luggage, but what’s the point really when a nappy changing bag with baby essentials takes up the entire weight allowance?
Ow, a little news on the work front.Well I've completed the fat reduction treatment page
