Jessica Simpson Takes a Turn for Country
Jessica Simpson has been in the music business for some time. She then successfully managed to switch over to being an actress (how successful that transition has been is a matter of opinion) However, she recently has been one of the many musicians to attempt to transfer genres for music, changing from pop music to country.
Being from Texas, she was brought up on country music. She was quoted telling Billboard Music “I am a country girl, I grew up in Texas, and country music was what I listened to. I always wanted to make a country album, but I wanted to wait until the time was right.”
The end of her marriage, canceling of her TV shows, small roles in her acne commercials, and low album sales must be what she means by “wait until the time was right.” Jessica needed to do something to bring herself back into the positive lime light. There is no doubt that Jessica Simpson has a beautiful singing voice and a gorgeous look.
I for one always thought she depended too much on that gorgeous look and found her movies and music videos far too provocative. When she first came onto the music scene as a child, it was her father that kept her career innocent. But once she hit 18 that all changed. Her music went from songs about love and innocence to hot and steamy. While country music has its fair share of sexy videos, they are nothing compared to the bump and grind of a pop music video. Country music stars seem to be a little more grounded than their pop counterparts (Brittney Spears, Michael Jackson, Beyonce Knowles). Pop stars spend too much time in the tabloids and the bars, and the psych wards. Country music stars make music.
I am happy to see that Jessica Simpson has been accepted by the country fans and by other artists. I look forward to hearing more of her fabulous voice and hope to see her act cleaned up a bit.
