When less is more...
My make-up collection looks like it could belong to a drag queen, but even I know that when it comes to painting your face, sometimes less is more. Unfortunately, there are tons of celebrities out there who just don't seem to know when to put the brush down and step away. You can be wearing the most fabulous designer outfit, with a Hermes Birkin bag on your arm, but if your make-up looks like you took lessons from the local hookers then the whole ensemble has been ruined.
There are some serious serial offenders out there, especially in the States. It probably won’t surprise you to know that I’ve seen pictures of both Christina Aguilera and Kim Kardashian looking about as beautifully made-up as the mutton dressed as lamb women that stagger down the main street of every small English town on a Saturday evening. However, even the most glamorous of women occasionally get their make-up wrong. Would you believe that a photo exists of Catherine Zeta-Jones with blotchy foundation? Or Jennifer Lopez with false eyelashes so heavy she looks like she’s falling asleep?
Sometimes it’s not so much that there’s too much make-up or that the colours are a little on the tacky side; sometimes it looks like the celebrity had a completely different outfit in mind when they were putting on their slap. One snap which always makes me feel better when I’m having a bad day is Posh Spice pouting her way through an extraordinarily glossy red lipstick while wearing a delicate, lacy smock that would look more at home on a make-up shunning hippy chick. So what can we learn from all these disasters, ladies? Well, firstly that co-ordination isn’t just about colour. Secondly, if you’re going through more than a tub of foundation a week, then you’re wearing too much foundation. And lastly, if you start noticing cars driving slowly alongside you as you walk along the street, then the chances are your make-up might be a little on the tarty side....
