So John Darwin goes missing in 2002 and turns up again at the end of 2007, do we really care this much about this case that we need to devote so much media attention to it?  It does rate slightly higher than celebrities not wearing knickers, but is this of major national importance?  Is it finding the missing disks with the personal information on them?  Is it stopping the government from making any more scandalous revelations?  No, but it is providing a cloud cover over these other matters.  There is only so much time allocated to the news, and the more coverage that stupid stories like this one regurgitate every hour, the less we find out about what’s really important to the country as a whole.  Let this guy and his family sort out the fraud situation with the appropriate legal departments, and let the rest of us move on to keeping up with events that concern the majority of the population rather than one family.

Probably my least favourite of the Spice Girls during their pop world reign Scary Spice has transformed from a brash girl to a sophisticated diva who’s got >  Following her progress through America’s “Dancing With The Stars” I’ve been amazed to see how she’s changed over the years since the old days of “Girl Power”.   Like a butterfly emerging from a cocoon she’s turned from scary to sexy and gawky to glam.   It will be interesting to see how this fits into the Spice Girl image as their tour is about to kick off.  It’ll be a shame if she reverts back to her old >  Dance on Mel - you did us Brits proud!

Nicole Kidman’s in London for the UK premiere of her new movie “The Golden Compass” and boy is she looking good.  If women knew that age 40 was going to fit them as well as it does this sleek >With her >  Unlike many of her younger peers, she’s elegant and wears her fame with grace and poise.

I’ve no doubt that she’s got a team that help to keep her looking that great, and there’s always gossip about cosmetic surgery (although she’s denied this), Nicole Kidman is looking fabulous at 40.  As much as anyone else can help with the make-up, the wardrobe and even Botox and/or nipping and tucking should it be necessary, it’s still down to the individual’s commitment to move pounds and muscle in order to maintain a body that’s as slim as hers.  So go Nicole, you’re a great role model to those women approaching the big 4-0.

The current debate on Children’s television needs to take a close look at the vast difference in age appropriate programmes that are being offered.  The BBC is doing a great job with the CEEBIES offering a wide range of programmes that cover learning skills in a fun way without being stupid and over-the-top.  Once you leave that age group however, things start to get a little bit out of hand with programmes being either too silly, or far fetched, or in some cases so scary that children who are not allowed to watch PG rated movies prefer to watch CEEBIES!

Children’s television, as with adult TV needs to compete with the other choices for entertainment that are available, especially things such as X-Box and the Internet, however the programmers need to also consider what parents will allow their children to watch.  A parent may be more inclined to allow their child to play an age appropriate game on the computer rather than a TV programme that shows how people shouldn’t behave!

Those who are complaining about whether programs are UK produced or overseas should also note that parents don’t care!  What they do care about is the quality of the programme and whether or not we think that it offers “wholesome” entertainment rather than encouraging manic and careless behaviour.

So what is it about Botox that makes celebrities think they look so great?  Both male and female actors and singers are reported to have regular treatments – many of whom freely admit to giving nature’s bounty a little enhancement.  Admittedly, on some people it looks good, so good in fact that you can’t notice it unless it’s pointed out.  On others, such as Joan Rivers, who recently pounced on red carpet victims, they either offended their plastic surgeon, or asked for a “little extra” than what was intended for their face shape and bone structure!  With elderly celebrities, the additional treatment makes them become more like caricatures of their real selves, where as with others, such as Jennifer Aniston, who have no need to enhance themselves because they already look good, over-dosing on Botox can take a pretty face and turn into one that looks as if it’s done a few rounds in a boxing ring with a heavyweight pro!   Celebrities make a great deal out of looking good, and whilst it does work for some people, you have to wonder if those who are almost addicted to Botox actually look at themselves in the mirror before leaving home for a public engagement!
